Using the same colour across a scheme doesn’t have to be flat and boring – the interiors trend of colour drenching is anything but. The term is used for the total flooding of a single colour in one room, used in varying intensities and tones over multiple surfaces. It’s a fantastic way to take your home decor from safe and easy to something pretty spectacular and interesting.
This interior trend can be used in modern and traditional homes to add a sense of drama and create a contemporary look. This dramatic project below by Fenwick and Tilbrook takes the green from ceiling to the floor adding layers of textures with shades of saturated hues. Walls, panelling, picture rails, skirting boards, window frames – even across into the furnishings for a really committed look.

But if you’re not ready to take the full plunge into the deep drench, then you can scale it back by painting a couple of surfaces in the same colour and it can still make a real impact. This subtle colour drench shown below by Nina Campbell is a beautiful example. The soft pink has been taken over the walls, woodwork and mirror for a soft calming backdrop used with complimentary pastel shades for an overall gentle tonal appearance. Don’t be afraid to paint the structural details – you don’t lose them by ‘painting them out’, it can bring an enhancement and harmony to the space instead.
